Real-Time Results: Week 5

Apparently, the CO2 concentration of the air in the room in which our experimental units are kept must have risen significantly this past week; for both of the units with holes in the tape that otherwise separates their internal air from the room air experienced increases in airspace CO2 concentrations (see accompanying figure).  Figure 1 In the totally-sealed unit, however, this perturbation could not be felt; and its internal CO2 concentration continued to decline.

Since the past week's increase in the CO2 concentration of the middle unit works against our goal of establishing an ultimate mean value for this unit that is more centrally located between the ultimate experiment-long mean values of the low- and high-CO2-units, we will try to compensate for this development over the coming week by reducing (with more tape) the sizes of the holes in the tape that links the upper and lower halves of this middle unit, in order to slow the exchange of air between the unit and the room.
