Real-Time Results: Week 6

Figure 1Figure 2The results of our standard vine and primary and secondary root measurements are depicted in Figures 1, 2 and 3.  Everything continues to get bigger from week to week, but certain patterns are not much changed.  The plants in Bottles 1 and 2, with airspace CO2 concentrations well below the current global mean, show much less growth in all categories than the plants in the other bottles, which all have CO2 contents well above the global mean. Figure 3 Beyond this observation, however, CO2 effects are little evident.  Vine length appears relatively constant between 550 and 1150 ppm, while primary and secondary root lengths actually seem to be declining as the CO2 concentration rises across this range.  But the experiment is nowhere near its end yet, as there are still no signs of death in any of the original leaves.
