Working with a sediment core that they extracted from the center of Lake Gahai (37°08'N, 97°31'E), He et al. developed a decadally-resolved alkenone-based temperature record for that part of the Qaidam Basin of the northern Tibetan Plateau that covered the last 2600 years. This record revealed the presence of the MWP between AD 700 and 1350; and the ten Chinese researchers state that regional temperatures during the peak warmth of the MWP, which occurred over the period AD 1100-1200, exceeded those in the recent warm period by approximately 1.9°C.
