Nine impermeable polyethylene enclosures (0.53 m in diameter and 0.8 m in height) were moored to a polyethylene float. After filling the enclosures with filtered seawater, the seawater pCO2 levels in the enclosures were manipulated by bubbling in air with different levels of CO2 to achieve the desired pCO2 levels. Mean growth rates were analyzed on days 9 through 14 of the experiment.
