Pre-germinated seeds sown in pots filled with standard grand perlite that were watered with 10 to 30 ml of a standard hydroponics growth solution every 3 to 5 days until the plants reached the beginning of stem elongation, after which they were similarly watered every week with 50 to 200 ml of the same solution, all of which took place over a period of six months within controlled-environment chambers located in a glasshouse, where total above-ground dry weight was finally measured at harvest
