DONALD PAUL HODEL -- a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Oregon Law School -- is founder and managing director of the Summit Energy Group, a consortium of energy and natural resource consulting companies. Throughout his long and illustrious career he has served on many energy company and public interest boards, including the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute and later its Advisory Council, American Electric Power, Columbia Gas (later Columbia Energy Group), MAPCO, Taylor Energy Company, and Texon Corporation. Mr. Hodel has also served as Deputy Administrator and Administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration and as President of the National (now North American) Electric Reliability Council. Currently, he is a board member of Integrated Electrical Services, Inc., a NYSE company, and Salem Communications Corporation, a NASDAQ company.

Service to his country has been a hallmark of Mr. Hodel's career. From 1981 to 1982 he served as Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior; from 1982 to 1985 he served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy; and from 1985 to 1989 he served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. He has also served as Chairman of the National Critical Materials Committee and as a member and Chairman Pro-Tem of the Domestic Policy Cabinet Council.
Secretary Hodel is the recipient of three honorary doctorates and a number of other prestigious awards including the Presidential Citizens Medal, which he received from President Ronald Reagan in January, 1989.
